Sail to Angel Island Photo Safari with Mary
Sunday October 25
One-day crash course
2PM meet in San Francisco

*WALK* from the Caltrain to the dock at the Yacht Club behind Pac Bell park!
Be car-free, be-eco, and save money on parking. Relax and breathe.

We will meet at the dock of the bay like Otis Redding did but we’ll be going out on the Bay sailing to Angel Island. On the way we will learn how to use our cameras in manual or auto mode, (bring your manual) and photograph the skyline of gorgeous San Francisco after passing beneath the elegant span of the Bay Bridge and shooting up. It is photogenically mesmerizing and a bountiful fix of fresh air. Then after a 45-minute sail we will start our shooting adventure on the island focusing on lighting, angle, composition and timing. Learn how to think like a painter in a hurry, how to see and identify great light, and exercise your unique perspective. Use your camera like it’s an extension of your arm. Learn how to compose thoughtfully. I’ll give you tips that took me years to learn.

We will also shoot each other’s portraits working in pairs – you’ll be ready to photograph for the holidays or for an upcoming trip  – learning how to talk and shoot at the same time. Then we will have commentary on our images immediately. Learn what worked in your photos and how you can improve others. One-on-one guidance and boatloads of encouragement. Bring your camera (digital, film, point and shoots) and your enthusiasm.
We will be back at the dock by 6PM ish. Come join the fun. All levels of photographic experience welcome.
4 people max, $95 visa/mc

The Art of Seeing
Sunday November 9

Fall in love with the sparkling skies and bountiful cypress trees of this sacred Native American spot; a favorite with surfers but we’ll stay on land in the thousands of trees that bloom from the cliffs, cavort on the woodsy paths, and tip-toe near tide pools teeming with marine biology.

Vibrantly astounding ocean views framed with boughs of cypress trees, a surreal sunset, and the soothing sounds of the crashing waves will make you feel young again. You can feel the holiness in the dirt, water, and air. It will rejuvenate your soul. I promise.

And I’ll even drive.

At this time of year the light on the coast is fairytale-golden, enchantingly soft and tender. It has to be seen to be believed. If you take just one picture all day it is worth the walk in the woods alone. Plus it’s an easy hike. Come join us! One-on-one personal guidance on lighting, composition, and printing your works of art.  Sharpen your artistic perspective by learning how to look closely at nature and respond to its nuances photographically.
